John Doyle has been most applauded for his direction of Sweeney Todd, for which he was given a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award. His several other awards include a Drama Desk Award for his direction of The Color Purple, two Lucille Lortel Awards and a Special Citation from The New York Drama Critics' Circle. He’s served as Artistic Director of four UK theaters and between 2016 and 2022 he was the Artistic Director of the Classic Stage Company in New York.
