Julie Taymor is a director of theater, puppetry, opera and film. She’s best known for The Lion King, for which she won Tony Awards for Best Director, Best Designer and Best Original Musical Score. She’s also well known for productions of Juan Darién: A Carnival Mass, Titus Andronicus and The Magic Flute. She’s been given several Drama Desk Awards. Her many other honors include a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship and The Hewes Award for Concept Puppetry and Masks.
