Michael Blakemore was Associate Artistic Director of The National Theatre, London, for several years, after which time he joined The Royal Shakespeare Company. His best known work includes A Day in the Death of Joe Egg and Copenhagen, both highly honored and critically lauded. His many honors include two Drama Desk Awards and a in 2000 he won Tony Awards for both Best Director of a Play (Copenhagen) and Best Director of a Musical (Kiss me, Kate). He was awarded the Officer of the Order of British Empire in 2003.
