Ping Chong is best known for work that expresses an intense concern with identity and culture using a wide range of interdisciplinary, experimental techniques. One of his best known works, Undesirable Elements, is an oral history project in which members of the community speak on stage about their personal experiences. Nearly 50 of similar pieces have been presented internationally. He’s received many honors including The National Medal of the Arts, The Doris Duke Performing Artists Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship and a USA Artist Fellowship.
