Robert Icke was appointed Ibsen Artist in Residence at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam in 2019. He had previously been Associate Director of The Almeida Theatre and Artistic Director of both The Arden Theatre Company and The Swan Theatre Company (all UK). Noted internationally for his bold adaptations of classics, he's received many honors, including two Evening Standard Best Director Awards, The Critics’ Circle Award, the Kurt Hübner Award and the Olivier Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
This interview took place while Mr. Icke's productions of Hamlet and Oresteia were running in New York.
