Robert Wilson is esteemed for innovative staging and design. He’s best known for works such as Einstein on the Beach. He’s accomplished as a director of his own and others’ scripts, both drama and opera. His many and honors include the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, the Olivier Award and five honorary doctorate degrees. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for the CIVIL warS: a tree is best measured when it is down, a large five-act musical work which has never been performed as a unit. He’s the founder and Artistic Director of The Watermill Center, an arts laboratory on Long Island.
